COMPLETED RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

Testing of Non Woven for Product Development under AICTE, Research Promotion Scheme

Nonwoven is a growing industry. It has been in developed stage in foreign countries like USA , EUROPE . India is becoming a developed country and this project will be useful to extend the scope of nonwoven in India. This project was established under AICTE, Research Promotion Scheme.

Cost of project was 8.0 lacs and duration was 2 years. Project was undertaken to develop the testing facilities in the institute for nonwovens. Facilities established under this project are very useful to the industry to carry out product development and to understand properties of nonwoven fabric. It was also meant to explore the possibility of improving quality of nonwoven fabrics in India. In addition to this, research project also helped to understand the performance of nonwovens

Development of an Instrument for Identification of Handloom Woven Fabrics sponsored by Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India, New Delhi

In India textile industry is divided in to three main sectors: hand loom sector, decentralized sector, and the organized sector.

Handloom industry employs large population in manufacturing the fabrics of various types. As such government of India protects the handloom industry. The industry is protected to save the employment of lakhs of people engaged in this industry.

The protection is in the form of reserving few fabric qualities and the subsidy, which power loom owners are not entitled to. Moreover, there are exports of large quantities handloom fabrics as there is good demand for the Indian handloom fabrics due to the texture and designs etc.

The possibility of power loom owners manufacturing the fabric on power loom and selling it as hand loom fabric in domestic and international market cannot be completely overlooked. The related authorities receive complaints regarding such cases.

Till recent days, there was no instrument to differentiate the fabric made on handlooms and other power operated looms. As such it becomes very difficult to solve such complaints. Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India sanctioned a project costing 15 lacs for 3 years duration to develop an instrument for Identification of Handloom Woven Fabrics. Under this project, an instrument to identify handloom fabrics was developed.

Industry Institute Partnership Cell

Institute has established "Entrepreneurship Development Cell" (EDC), sponsored by Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India, New Delhi during 2004-08. Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) sponsored by All Indian Council for Technical Education (AICTE) was also established in 2006-07. The funds received from DST during year 2004-08 was Rs. 28.00 Lakhs, and the funds received from AICTE during year 2011-12 was 7.50 Lakhs

Objectives of EDC:

  • To act as an institutional mechanism for providing various services including information to budding S & T entrepreneurs.
  • To create Entrepreneurial culture in the parent institution and other.
  • To catalyze and promote development of S & T based enterprises and promote employment opportunities.
  • To respond effectively to the emerging challenges and opportunities both at national and international level relating to SMEs and micro enterprises.

The institute has come up with an Industry-Institute Partnership Cell (IIPC) sanctioned by the All Indian Council for Technical Education (AICTE) act as an interface between the industries and Institute to take up collaborative activities for mutual benefit. The funds received from AICTE during year 2006-07 were Rs. 10.00 Lakhs and during the year 2011-12 was Rs. 10.00 Lakhs.

The objectives are:

  • To strengthen the bond between industries and institute
  • To arrange industrial training for students and identify student project work in industries relevant to industry need.
  • To interact with R & D Organizations for conducting joint research work.
  • To arrange technical exhibitions / open houses / project competitions, personality development workshops.
  • To arrange short-term tailor made programmes for duration of 5 to 7 days for the benefit of professionals in various technical disciplines.
  • To arrange need based training programme in industries.

Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP)

The broad objectives of the programme was to create an environment in which engineering institutions selected under the programme can achieve their own set targets for excellence and sustain the same with autonomy and accountability, support development plans including synergistic networking and services to community and economy for achieving higher standards, and to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the technical education management system. Under this project, Institute received grant of Rs. 69.722 million for the developmental activities. Various facilities such as state of the art library, laboratories and teaching and learning facilities were established

Entrepreneurship Development Cell

Institute established "Entrepreneurship Development Cell" (EDC), which was sponsored by Department of Science & Technology Govt. of India, New Delhi. The cost of project was 45 lacs and duration was 5 years.

Following objectives were accomplished by the cell:

  1. Acted as an institutional mechanism for providing various services including information to budding S & T entrepreneurs.
  2. Created entrepreneurial culture in the parent institution and others.
  3. Catalyzed and promoted development of S & T based enterprises and promoted employment opportunities.
  4. Responded effectively to the emerging challenges and opportunities both at national and international level relating to SMEs and micro enterprises.

Under this project, innovative fancy yarns were developed. Support for the project was from ISTE, Uster & Amsler Tex AG and duration was 1 year.

Effect of Performance, Emission and Combustion Characteristics of Nano Fluids in a Diesel Engine

The project was sponsored by Institution of Engineers, Kolkata. The cost of project was 0.40 lacs and duration was 1 year. Under this project, performance of various fluids in diesel engines was assessed.

Modernization and Removal of Obsolescence in Technical Education (MODROBS)

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) funded Rs. 13 lacs for modernistion of Man Made Textile Testing laboratory under Modernization and Removal of Obsolescence in Technical Education (MODROBS) scheme. Dynamic Thermal Testing Tester (Dynafil) was purchased with this fund and the laboratory filament yarns testing facilities upgraded.

Ichalkaranji Textile Development Cluster (ITDC)

To enhance and improve the infrastructure facilities, The Ichalkaranji Municipal Council, Ichalkaranji Industrial Estate, DKTE’s Textile and Engineering Institute, Laxmi Industrial Estate and Parvati Industrial Estate jointly came together and formed a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) company viz. “Ichalkaranji Textile Development Cluster Limited (ITDC) which has been registered and implemented the project. The individual members contributed to the extent of about 50% of the project cost and the balance amount came from the grant in aid from Department of Industrial Promotion and Policy, Government of India, vide their letter No. 5/18/4/2005-DBA-I dated 8th April, 2005 under the Industrial Infrastructure up-gradation Scheme (IIUS).

Under this scheme, institute received Rs.700.00 lakhs from Department of Industrial Promotion and Policy, Government of India for development of Research and Development Center to cater to the needs of local textile industry. The various state of the equipments were acquired through this project
